"...Love conquers all..."
At the time of this interview, Prince (75) and Anne’s (76) story began in the halls of their school, where their connection was rooted in everyday moments. Prince, a year younger than Anne, often relied on her help with their Latin homework. She’d translate passages for him, and together they would read stories like "Dido and Aeneas". It wasn’t dramatic or planned; it was the quiet, consistent rhythm of their friendship that grew into something deeper.
“We were just kids,” Anne says, laughing as she recalls those days. “He’d be so lost with the Latin, and I couldn’t resist helping him out. We didn’t realize it at the time, but those small moments were the start of everything.”
Their relationship grew naturally, grounded in shared time and genuine care for each other. After finishing school, they decided to marry the day after graduation in a chapel in Swansea, a coastal city in Wales. It was a simple ceremony, not about grandeur but about making a commitment that felt right.
Life hasn’t always been smooth for the pair. They’ve faced their share of challenges, from financial pressures to personal hardships. But through it all, they’ve stuck together, finding strength in their partnership. “We’ve had thin times and thick times,” Prince reflects. “What’s kept us going is respect. We argue like anyone else, but we always listen. That’s what makes the difference.”
Prince continues “Marriage isn’t about the wedding day or a piece of paper. It’s about the life you build together after that. There’s no shortcut—it’s work, but it’s worth it.”
Now, years later, Prince still marvels at the life they’ve created. “I wake up and see Anne beside me, and I think, ‘This is what it’s all about.’ It’s not perfect every day, but it’s real, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
Their story, unpolished and honest, is a testament to what love can look like when it’s grounded in mutual respect and understanding. Prince and Anne remind us that love isn’t a fairy tale; it’s a journey you take together, one day at a time.
